Teacher & Performer
Arriving in London as one of the original cast members of
the hit West End musical Lady Salsa, he has since
performed in a wide variety of shows, including recently
as a guest dancer with Dollie Henry's jazz theatre
company, Body of People, at Sadlers Wells, as well as the
salsa musical Murderous Instincts, the hip hop opera Cry
of Innocence at the Greenwich theatre and the 'Move it'
London festival at Olympia
As a salsa and Afro-Cuban folkloric dancer Rafael has
performed and taught at salsa congresses, both
nationally in the UK and in many countries worldwide,
including France, Italy, Russia, Singapore, Sweden,
Turkey, Guadalupe, Poland, Finland, Dubai, and the Czech
Republic
Rafael’s extraordinary grace and refined creative instinct
led him to win the professional division of the London
Open World Salsa Championships two years running, in
2001 and 2002. A recent accolade to his enduring
popularity saw him winning the 'UK's Most Popular Cuban
Salsa Performer' award at the UK Cuban Salsa Congress
2006.
Since arriving in London from Havana,
Rafael has taken the salsa world by storm.
Through his exciting teaching, electrifying
performances and inspirational social
dancing, he has played no small part in
reviving the UK salsa scene’s current
passion for all things Cuban.
