In the stunning array of dances that make up the Cuban
dance firmament there are few things that can match the
immediate thrill of being swept up in the Cuban wheel or
Rueda de Casino, as it is known in Spanish.
Renowned for its inclusiveness, pace and huge
popularity, you will see wheels spinning on the dance
floors of Cuban clubs throughout the world. The dancers
in the wheel respond spontaneously to a caller who leads
them through sets of skilful and often humorous moves.
Couples constantly change partners and move in every
direction imaginable - it truly is inspirational to watch and
great fun to take part in.
At every La Clave Cubana club night we’re now offering a
dedicated Rueda class before the main classes begin. You
will build your repertoire of moves and variations,
becoming ever more skilled at responding to the caller’s
wickedly challenging combinations. You will also come to
understand the foundation of timing for the calls and,
should you wish, learn to call yourself.
The class presupposes a good foundation in Casino
(Cuban style salsa) and as such anyone from lower-
intermediate level upwards in Cuban style is very
welcome to join.
